The Work

This illustrated book presents a series of wildflowers that used to be common and widespread in the countryside. For each one, a double illustrated page gives the origin of its name, the properties and uses of the plant, its symbolic meaning and the places where it grows, as well as related songs and artistic or literary works in which it appears.

The Author(s)

Catherine Kembellec is a primary school teacher whose books are aimed at children. These include illustrated books for 3 to 6 year-olds, first reading books published by Bayard and novels for 8 to 12 year-olds. Her readership and the places where she has lived or travelled are her sources of inspiration.
After being a sales assistant at Arc International for years, Benedict of Greece decided to dedicate her life to writing and painting. She has already published books in the Polar’s en Nord collection and has illustrated several children’s books. Her paintings have been exhibited in Paris and Brussels.
